Video Camera Registry
Register Your Surveillance System with the Bayonne Police Department
The Bayonne Police Department is developing a police-community partnership with residents and business owners in an effort to deter crime and promote public safety.
This program is known as a video sharing partnership and works on a voluntarily basis with property and business owners who have private surveillance systems in places that record areas such as streets, public sidewalks and parking lots. Police responding to numerous types of incidents will be able to contact the registered video partner which may have recorded footage that could aid in the investigation.
How Does the Program Work?
Property owners who already own a video surveillance system inform the Bayonne Police Department of any surveillance cameras. Property owners would be contacted by the Bayonne Police Department if an incident takes place in the vicinity of the surveillance cameras. Police personnel may ask camera owners to review and/or provide recorded footage related to a specific incident.
What About Privacy and Security Concerns?
This partnership is not intended for active or live feed surveillance. Nor is it intended to monitor what citizens are doing in their neighborhoods. Any information provided will be maintained in a secure data base. The Bayonne Police Department will NEVER have remote or direct access to any private surveillance systems. Therefore, it will take the owner’s permission and cooperation to view, download or copy any recorded incidents. Police personnel will only ask to view footage relating to a specific incident for use as evidence to aid in ongoing investigations.
The registration form below will help us investigate incidents where surveillance footage could help. In order to participate in this program, the camera(s) must be located within the City of Bayonne. If you have more than one address/location please register each separately. Ring, Nest, wireless & hardwired systems are all acceptable. Thank you for your cooperation.
