Abandoned Vehicle
Is there a vehicle in your neighborhood you believe may be abandoned?
What is an abandoned vehicle?
A vehicle is considered abandoned if it has been in the same public location for at least 48 hours
39:4-56.5 Abandonment of motor vehicle. … A vehicle which has remained on or along any highway or other public property or on private property without such consent for a period of more than 48 hours or for any period without current license plates shall be presumed to be an abandoned motor vehicle. …
The Bayonne Police Department takes the problem of abandoned vehicles seriously and we investigate each complaint. These investigations do take time, however, and often some actions we take are not readily apparent. A common problem is a vehicle will move the slightest distance, thereby resetting the 48-hour clock. Special circumstances may exist for a particular vehicle. This will give the impression that no action was taken when in fact it was addressed.
Please email your complaint. Upload a small photograph of the vehicle, or just a vehicle description, with an exact location of the vehicle in the Subject line and send to abandonedcars@bayonnepd.org
